CARITAS/JDPC-Jalingo Trained AND Established 58 Parish JDPC Members in the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria.
The Catholic Diocese of Jalingo through the Office of the Justice Development and Peace Commission/Caritas, JDPC/Caritas, have trained and Commissioned about 58 members from Parishes, Pastoral Areas and Chaplaincies in the Diocese.
The two-day training has as its theme: “Strengthening the Capacity Of Parish JDPC for Effective Social Action” and was held at the Mini Hall of St Charles Borromeo Pastoral Center Mile Six Jalingo on the 22nd-23rd May, 2025.
Declaring the occasion open, the Catholic Bishop of Jalingo Diocese, Most Rev Charles Michael Hammawa noted that the Justice Development and Peace Commission/Caritas is about pursuing, achieving and implementing the social teachings of the Church. Stressing that the JDPC is about speaking out for those who can not speak for themselves in terms of advocacy.
Facilitating the training, the Director Lead, Good Governance/JDPC Church and Society Department, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) Abuja, Sir Joe U. Ukamuke asserts that JDPC’s role goes beyond provision of safe water, livelihood support, women and youth empowerment… but to advocate for human rights and social justice particularly for the vulnerable and the marginalized individuals and communities. Mr. Jude Akwo the Associate Lead, Good Governance/JDPC Church and Society Department, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria Abuja tasked the participants to stir in the people a love leading to action for people who have being through poverty, misery, oppression and exploitation and those who hunger and thirst for justice and for charity and mutual care for the desire to be liberated from their present predicament.
