2 BOREHOLES GET COMMISSIONED BY BISHOP CHARLES HAMMAWA Sponsored by: MISEREOR Germany – Misereor

The Catholic Bishop of Jalingo Diocese, Most Rev Dr Charles Michael Hammawa has commissioned 2 boreholes in Kwanan Dutse and Hayin Fada villages in Ardo Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The Bishop who was represented by Rev Fr Istifanus Rokoba commissioned the water projects to bring sucour to the people of these communities who until now have been trekking 2km to get water from the stream.
The intervention is a result of the assessment survey that the Justice Development and Peace Commission/Caritas, JDPC, of the Diocese took and discovered the vulnerability of the residents due to outbreaks of water borne diseases. This survey was led by its Coordinator in the Diocese, Rev Fr Clement Tiba.
Commissioning the boreholes, Fr Rokoba said the JDPC seeks to address immediate needs linked to households survival through provision of boreholes to communities that are lacking water even as he said the program is supported by Misereor Germany.
In his address at the event, the Chairman, Illegal Mining and Deforestation of Ardo Kola Local Government Area, Hon. Markus Awolowo Auta who represented the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Ismaila Zakari Dangote thanked the Catholic Church for providing portable water for the inhabitants of these two villages. He said the Catholic Church is doing what the Government would have done to its citizens. He tasked the people to handle the boreholes with care.
Rev Fr Stephen Bakari, the JDPC Coordinator of Wukari Diocese was also present at the event. In his own address he said that the goal of the JDPC is to enable the most vulnerable communities have access to portable water and good hygiene.
The Village Heads of both communities unanimously thanked the Bishop and all those involved in the process for remembering their households and for alleviating their sufferings.
